The healthy way to eat dessert during Ramadan (2)

From the book "300 questions in comprehensive nutrition"
By Dr. Cherifa Aboul Fettouh

Q: What is the proper, healthy way of eating dessert during Ramadan?

A: Fasting presents itself in avoiding the bounties of Allah which he has permitted for one month every year to remember his countless blessings. And the best healthy ways to eat dessert during Ramadan are:

1. Eating not more than the size of "half the palm of the hand," and day after day not daily (you can eat it daily only if you are not overweight). This way we get the most out of it, and it becomes nutritious and provides us with energy and vitality.
2. People who break their fast with dates and milk should count this as part of the dessert they'll eat afterwards, be it fruits or sweets, so that the proportion of fat does not exceed the limit, having a negative impact on health and vitality.

Q: How can I lose weight during Ramadan while eating all kinds of food?

A: The ideal diet for weight loss during Ramadan for the lovers of dessert
1. Section I: is the largest part of the circle (half the dish): represents vegetables and salad, which means that the largest part of the meal consists of vegetables and salad.
2. Section II: is the medium part of the circle (two-thirds of the other half of the dish): represents the protein, should be lean "no fat".
3. Section III: is the small part (one-third of the other half of the dish): represents carbohydrates (rice, pasta).

Taking into account the following:
- First: breakfast:
Eat it in the same previous arrangement: salad and vegetables, then protein, then carbohydrates.
Eat the meal throughout 60 minutes only.
Stop eating completely until Suhoor meal, but you can drink water and green tea without sugar.
- Second: Suhoor meal must consist of: one egg only, salad and a cup of yogurt.
This diet will help you lose weight while eating all kinds of food.
Take caution of the rapid reduction of weight which has serious harmful impact, and note that gaining weight back happens as quickly as losing it.

Q: 20-year-old girl, length of 165 cm and weighs 98 kilograms. She does not eat much for breakfast but consumes too much dessert and juices, and wants a solution to reduce her weight?

A: She better sacrifice one of them, either sweets or juices. And I prefer that she sacrifices dessert for natural juices, best without sugar added and soaked in cold water instead of boiling, such as hibiscus, licorice and tamarind, common juices in Ramadan along with Kamaruddin (dried apricot juice).

Q: What is the healthy diet that maintains weight and health during Ramadan?

A: I'll set a diet for breakfast and Suhoor, which is as follows:
After the call to prayer (Athan) directly: a cup of tamarind.
After Maghreb prayers: a small dish of soup or a cup of skimmed milk. Then salad and vegetables, then protein with half a cup of rice or a cup of pasta or half a loaf of bread… and eat your breakfast in the same order.
Three hours later: dessert in the size of "palm of the hand."
After another three hours: Dried fruit - for those who wish - in the size of "half the palm of the hand."
Suhoor: yogurt, eggs, three tablespoons fava beans and half a loaf of bread.
